Our Services

JPs have a wide range of functions they can perform. Most people visit us to have a signature witnessed or copies of important documents certified. As a hospital-based service, we also see a greater number of enduring documents than we otherwise might.

At the QEII, we provide the full range of JP services you would expect, from certified copies and statutory declarations, to civil summonses and warrants.

This page has some information on the things we can and cannot do for you.

What we can do

• Certify true copies of original documents (including digital documents)
• Witness statutory declarations and affidavits under Queensland and Commonwealth law, including exhibits
• Witness enduring documents, such as Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Directives
• Witness signatures on most forms and contracts
• Witness Titles Registry forms
• Provide (limited) procedural advice on the documents we are able to execute (for example, the general requirements for statutory declarations)
• Issue summonses and warrants under authorising law for eligible applicants

What we cannot do

• Provide any form of legal advice or explain legal implications or matters – these matters require a solicitor
• Tell you which forms you require – your best source for this information is whomever is asking for them
• Draft or complete documents for you – but there may be other services which can help
• Advise as to the suitability or validity of a document
• Perform marriages – although we share the name, US and Queensland JPs have nothing in common

Confidentiality

All JP services are confidential. None of your information is shared with any third party except where required by law.

Please note that our signing site is in a public location. If your matter is highly sensitive and requires privacy, please let your JP know.

Costs

Queensland Justice of the Peace services are always free, anywhere, anytime.
